There’s nothing perplexing about Thai Confusion

After helming two succesful Bob Likes Thai Food (BLTF) eatery locations — one on Main Street and one on West Broadway — owner Tai Keattivanichvily has just launched a third venture dubbed Thai Confusion at 117 West Pender St. near Gastown.

Unlike BLTF, which are smaller spaces designed for a quick dining experience, Confusion is much more expansive with an upscale and intimate atmosphere. Equally expansive is the menu that features “grub gam,” or Thai tapas.

Keattivanichvily says he wanted to mix up the types of dishes he already offers at his other establishments and provide customers something unique they might not have tried before anywhere else.

During a media launch, the kitchen whipped up some examples of these different foods, like Tom Kha, which is curry rice that has been deep fried, swimming in a soup made from coconut milk, basil, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaf and sesame seed. Two other interesting items included the Hor Mok Pla, marinated grilled fish prepared with turmeric, red curry paste and relish and served on a banana leaf, as well as the popular bacon-wrapped lychee and pineapple.

There’s a full beer and wine list, and several signature cocktails available such as the Bourbon of Bangkok (bourbon, lime, apricot jam and ginger beer). The restaurant has a capacity of 99 with bar seating and two mezzanines up above that can accommodate small groups. Check out the website for their full menu.
